2 Peter 1:3 says, “According as His divine power hath given unto
us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the
knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” The Word
of God is absolutely sufficient for every need that may arise in
any life, ministry or church. More specifically, the Bible is given,
“that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all
good works” (2 Timothy 3:16). For the believer, everything we need
to grow to maturity is found in the Bible. We need no other resource
to tell us how to be Christians or how to do church. I strive in
this ministry to have nothing less, and nothing more, than the whole
counsel of God.
Prayer Empowered

One of the most compelling statements that I have heard
about prayer defines the relational function of prayer: “Jesus Christ,
obviously present and actively in charge.” This statement sums up
the empowerment of ministry. Prayer is not a symbol of how spiritual
we are, but a declaration of how dependent we are upon Christ. Prayer
is not a mere formality expressing our piety, nor is it a ritual
to be exercised at the proper times and with the proper phrases.
Prayer is not a magic formula whereby we make God do what we want,
nor is it an expression of faith filled power that will create blessings.
Prayer is living communication with our Father and is the very source
of ability and power in ministry.
Investment Oriented

Lives are changed by lives. My intention in my ministry
is to imitate the examples of Jesus and Paul, by investing myself
into the lives of some for a period of time that they may then go
and invest themselves into others who will continue the process.
I use the term investment carefully, because investment implies
initial cost that reaps greater rewards. To impact a life requires
time, vulnerability and transparency. “Iron sharpeneth iron; so
a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17).
This sharpening process occurs through interaction. Accountability
and confrontation are crucial aspects of this interaction. I hope
to be able to impact others by investing in these kind of relationships
with those who are willing to invest the same relationship into
still more lives.
Servant Leadership

Christ gave the foundational model of ministry to His disciples
when He washed their feet telling them, “If I then, your Lord and
Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s
feet.” Biblical leadership is not a model of power and lordship,
but of service and sacrifice. Servant leadership is crucial because
we are not lords or lordlings, we are servants of the Chief Shepherd.
While God has placed some in positions of responsibility and authority,
He has placed none in positions of superiority. Ultimately, if Christ
humbled Himself and became a servant, then I too will humble myself
and become a servant.
God’s Glory Focused

I seek to emulate Paul in my ministry: “Wherefore we labor,
that whether present or absent we may b pleasing to Him” (2 Corinthians
5:9). All other things I do in this ministry are subordinate to
that chief end of bringing God pleasure and increasing His glory.
One of the crucial focuses of my ministry is the heart. Israel was
soundly condemned because they had lips that praised God but hearts
that were far from Him (Isaiah 29:13). A heart that is wrong may
produce a hypocrite, but it will never produce glory to God. I am
striving to have in all things a heart that pleases God. The glory
and pleasure of God is the most important thing in everything I
do. |
